Personal growth is a process which helps you understand, manage and develop yourself so that you can function effectively and efficiently. It also enables you make reasonable decisions from a position of knowledge and understanding about yourself. Your exposure, experiences and knowledge all influence the rate at which you grow and whether the growth will be positive and beneficial.

There are several stages in the personal growth process in the life of every individual. Some of these include:

1. The stage of being asleep
This is the time in your life that you never even knew you had the power to change your life in a positive way. Many people place the blame on others or even circumstances. At this stage, you were living your life as you knew best and lacked control. Your fears and those of the people that were around you rules your life, We need to take back control over our lives.

2. The stage of awakening
At this point, we have woken up and have observed that our expectations of ourselves and other people never came to pass. At this point, we start looking for practical answers to the issues of life. It is now that we begin to come to many realizations some of which would be interesting and tough to handle.

3. The stage of Integration
This is a time when we move from just knowing to doing. This is the period when we take the bull by the horn to make things happen so that our lives can reflect the knowledge we have. For our life to change, we must address our belief systems and behaviour.

4. The stage of Acceptance
We begin to accept who we are and develop new habits. At this stage, we become happier with ourselves and if we want, we change the things we do not like in our lives. At this stage, we do not move on impulse.

5. The stage of Application
This phase requires that we begin to impact on the lives of other people. We begin to develop a bigger vision and contribute in every way we can towards changing the lives of people.

1. Thinking that every other person is wrong and only you are right.
2. Blaming yourself for everything bad that happens.
3. Allowing your emotions to think for you.
4. Always thinking 'i should', 'i would' or 'i could' but never actually doing anything.
5. Always assuming that people are thinking negative thoughts about you.
6. Thinking that no good thing can happen to you.
