Plans are very important. They provide details that help individuals identify what they need to put in place and the things that will help them achieve their objectives and goals in life. A personal development plan can also be likened to a guide that assists people identify what their personal development goals are, and the steps that they need to take. It also helps them identify potential pitfalls to look out for. Anyone one who is serious about developing his personal life should make out time to put down the steps he needs to take.

Step 2: Prioritize - Select the goal that is of priority and get to work on it
From your list of goals, you will need to select the ones that are of high priority first. When you have accomplished them, then you move on to the next in that order until all your goals have been established.

Step 3: Establish deadlines
Any goal you have that does not have a deadline is a goal that will not be accomplished. Without deadlines, your goals will only remain dreams. The goals you have listed in your personal development plan must be realistic, specific and achievable. Determine if you have all that is required to accomplish that goal and then go ahead to set a time frame for it.

Step 4: Understand your strengths and write down which of them can help in the achievement of your goal
Everyone has its areas of strengths and skills in specific areas. If you are not a singer, artist or doctor, you may be a good listener. There is something that you are good at. Identify these key strengths. You can do this by assessing yourself or asking friends and family members. They will give you an idea of the areas where your strength lies. Your strength makes you different and unique. List out these


strengths and build on them.

Step 5: Recognize the potential opportunities and threats that exist
Here, you will need to write out the behaviour, attitude or habits that would help you achieve the fulfilment of your goals. Write out 5 things that you will start doing to help you fulfil your goals in life.

Which of these can be a threat to the achievement of your goals? If you identify threats to your goals, make a decision to stop them. List out what you need to start doing that will help you in the achievement of your goals. Once you start taking little steps, you will find that your goals are gradually being accomplished.

Step 6: Develop the requisite skills required to help you achieve your goal
Your personal development plan will enable you move from point A to point B. You need to also plan to develop new skills that will move you forward in life. There is something new to learn to achieve your goals. Do not stay with the skills you learnt in the past but acquire better ones that will enhance your personal development.

Step 7: Get Help
Identify who can help you in the fulfilment of your goals. There are individuals that would contribute to your life and career. Their contributions will help in achieving your goals faster. You may need to talk to a career counsellor if you desire to change jobs; to lose weight, you will need a fitness professional or coach and in order to improve your finances, you can consult a financial advisor.

Step 8: Measure your progress
It is good to assess the progress you have made in the pursuit of your goals. You will need to identify and write down the areas where you are doing well. It is said that you cannot be doing the same things over and over while still expecting change. In the areas where you are not doing too well, identify what can be done better. To improve, try to develop new strategies.
